I've already commented on here previously about Joshua's weird dislike of cheese. (Again, how can a child of mine not like cheese?) But there are a few other oddities about Baby J's diet. He does not like fruit snacks. I thought that was written in some kid-handbook somewhere: Thou must like fruit snacks. Somehow he missed that rule. Another thing he won't really eat is...get ready for it.....ice cream. HUH you say?!? It was again proved yesterday evening at the Boy of Bigness in Gaylord. We ordered a Super Sundae and he turned his face from the spoon every time. That amazes me. He certainly has his own mind about everything.
Granted, I think all kids and adults have their own food weirdness about them. Take my favorite breakfast sandwich for instance. Hashbrowns or whatever potato there is, cheese, bacon, and raw green/red pepper all on a bagel (or bread or english muffin if no bagels are available). I love it. Yummy. Others look at it and think it looks gross, but to me, its awesome.
Aaron, who so far is my best and most adventurous eater, has this great love of breads. He can make a sandwich out of anything. His latest breakfast creation is taking a hot dog bun, opening it up, and putting strawberry cream cheese inside and he closes it and eats it just like that. EEEEeeeeewwwwww, but he digs it. If all else fails, give Aaron a boiled egg and some bread, and the kids is happy as can be.
I can't think of any crazy food things that Brendan likes, but I will say he is very picky. Likes chicken nuggets, but not chicken tenders. Could eat grilled cheese every day of the week. Has never tried a hamburger. Will eat a salad without complaint, but won't try any food that he doesn't trust. His most famous comment, while he is holding the fork to his mouth about to try some food we are FORCING him to try, is , "Ohhhhh, I don't know about this!"
I know, I know, most everyone who knows me even a little bit is probably laughing and questioning how I, of all people, can talk about people and food. Me, a very picky eater growing up and still am today (although I have gotten better in my old age!) No, I don't like meat, don't eat hamburgers, steaks, seafood. Will eat pork or chicken but not a whole lot. But yet I will eat stuffed cabbage. Odd.
Many times I read Heather's blog and am amazed at the foods she cooks and even more amazed that it seems her daughter will eat them. Now me, I'm just excited when I make one of the few meals that the entire family eats without complaint: spaghetti with my yummy sauce (not that jar crap either!)
