AFI Film List

Always watch the AFI shows when they are on. I'm a big list person. I make lists for everything. Then I re-write my list. So I decided to write my list of favorite movies. I agree with many of AFI's choices, but MANY I just don't see it. My biggest point of contention is the #1 movies, Citizen Kane. Yah, its a good movie, but number one?? I don't think so.

Perhaps my favorite movie of all, and also AFI's #2 movie, The Godfather. Movie Perfection. This should have been ranked as the BEST. I also love The Godfather, Part 2., which is #32 on the AFI list. (No need to mention #3........) How I will sit and watch these movies for HOURS and hours.

To Kill a Mockingbird (#25) is the only book I have read more than once. It is also the rare exception where I think the movie is (almost) as good as the written word.

Hate to admit this one because it is so cliche, but It's a Wonderful Life (#20) is a wonderful movie.

Another movie that does the book proud is The Green Mile. Although I am not the biggest fan of Tom Hanks, and I thought he would be terrible in this role, I thought he did great in this movie. The book is awesome, but the movie did do it justice. Another movie that holds significance in my life around a personal event..

I'm a big fan of Hitchcock movies. He was a genius of filmmaking. I think my favorites are The Trouble with Harry (this is a must see if you haven't seen it yet!), Rear Window #48, To Catch a Thief, and of course, Psycho.

The Shawshank Redemption (#72). Can't tell you how many times that I have watched this movie. Its really good.

Pulp Fiction (#94). Who could argue with this one?? Countless drops. Great soundtrack. LOVE LOVE this movie.

Now for my cheesy chick-flick of the group: An Affair to Remember. Come on ladies, its Cary Grant. It makes me weepy. And again, its Cary Grant. He is the IDEAL movie star in my mind.

Star Wars: Episodes IV, V, VI: Can you honestly tell me that you hate Star Wars? Loved them as a kid, love them as an adult. Now my boys are loving them!

Harvey: Jimmy Stewart and a pooka.

Arsenic and Old Lace: Need I say Cary Grant again? Give me a movie with him in it, and I am watching it. This movie is a classic. Hilarious.

Fight Club: I'd say this movie deserves honorable mention. What's the first rule of Fight Club?? (Damn, I already broke rule #1!)

Long Hot Summer and Cool Hand Luke. Both with a young Paul Newman. Yummy. I really think that Cool Hand Luke should be seen by everyone.

The Usual Suspects: Who is Keyser Soze? Great cast.

Reservoir Dogs: Who's Mr Pink? Genius movie. Precursor to Pulp Fiction.

Giant James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor. And oh yeah, Rock Hudson, too. Long movie. Watch this when you are in for the long haul.

Gone with the Wind (#6). Don't know what to say about this movie, except that I think everyone (well, every girl, lady, woman) should see it at least once. Take away from it what you will, but I like it. (Except a guy named Ashley, really hate that.)

Scarface: This was the movie that we were watching while I was in labor with Brendan. Me, Ryan, the nurse, and my OB, all watching this before I started to push. Yah, I love that memory.

Well, that is all I can come up with right now. There are many great films that I could have added to this list, but I wanted to stick with my favorites. Leave a comment and tell me what your favorites are. Do you agree with the AFI's choice of the #1 movie?? (I think my sister does, but she's a fan of Orsen Wells.)

Citizen Kane was a GROUNDBREAKING film. It let to much more! Plus when he was younger, Orson was a cutie in my opinion.
