Got Snow?

My alarm generally wakes up me at 5am. This morning I decided to let the 2nd alarm, which rings at 5:05am, wake me up. That is something I rarely do--normally I get up with the first alarm, the 2nd one is there 'just in case'. Well, at 5:30am I looked at the clock, said "oh, shit" and got up. 30 minutes late getting up--why didn't my alarm go off? Don't know. Ah well, I get up a bit early any way, so I should be fine. RIGHT? Then I open the door to let the dogs outside, and that is when I said, "OH SHIT!" and had to get my ass in gear. Wind was blowing wickedly, snow was coming down thickly. At 6:05am, I was showered, dressed, hair dried, makeup on, coffee in hand, and out the door. Impressed? I was.

You see, this was the kind of morning where I wish to thank the SnowStick Fairies for placing those lovely snowsticks on sides of the roads. Because today was that day where if it weren't for those, I would have no idea if I was even on the road or not. Couldn't see more than a few yards ahead of myself. Yes, it was snowing heavily, but add to that the gusting winds and it was almost impossible to see.

Yet I kept going. Even when the I heard that Whitefish called a 2 hour delay. And we know that rarely happens. I kept going, even when I next heard that Whitefish called a snow day. That almost never happens. (Remember last year? Only 2 snow days, one for a blizzard and the other for a power outage!) Me in my van kept going. "It'll get better once I get to M-28," I kept telling myself. 45 minutes later I arrive finally make it to M-28--a drive that normally takes 20 minutes, top.

Yeah, I was wrong. Way wrong. M-28 was not better, but worse. Holy hell. 6 inches of snow at least on the roads, not plowed, but with ruts from the few other brave souls out on the roads with me. Oh boy. White knuckles on that steering wheel a few times.

Why didn't I turn back? Why not throw in the towel and turn around? I'm a Yooper Woman! Snow does not scare me! True, so true. But also due today was that big 10 page paper and 100 question exam. Had to get there no matter what. And the Soo? Barely a dusting on the ground. But it came later, not nearly like what we got here in Paradise, but they got a few inches maybe.

Interested in just how much snow we got today? 16-18 inches in most spots, with much deeper drifts in areas. Yeah, you know you are jealous! But I did it. It took me 2 hours but I made it to campus just in time to walk into the building just as class was starting. Give me the gold star cause I deserve it today. On the plus side, the drive home at 4:30pm only took me 90 minutes, so a little improvement.

Rumor is that some schools are already thinking of cancelling tomorrow as well. It would be highly unlikely that Whitefish cancel 2 days in a row, but we shall see. At this point we can't count on the weather advisory cause last night before bed I checked and they said that in my area we would get 2-4 inches. I think that was a bit off, don't you?

So this evening the fire is glowing and keeping me nice and toasty warm. The boys & Ryan are watching a Christmas movie as I type away. The wind is picking up again out there. Is this wave #2 for us? Cool.

Yet again Mom & Dad are missing out on some sweet weather. Wish you guys were here to enjoy it cause its awesome!
