Give Me Strength! (Or sleep)

Its Friday night and I can't get into studying. So instead I thought I'd do a quick update.

School has been keeping me very busy. By the end of this first week, I already feel behind and totally lost. I can not believe the amount of information being thrown at us and how much we are expected to do in one week alone. So far in my Nursing Fundamentals course, we have been taught how to make an unoccupied bed (must practice those hospital corners), an occupied bed, bed-baths, sterile techniques, bedpan basics (how basic can it be, right?), and who knows what else I am missing. That is not including all the lectures and reading and practicing involved. It also seems that everyday they are telling us what else we need to go buy which is hurting all of our wallets.
Pharmacology has been pretty easy this week, just the basics so far. In that class there will be quiz every week. Personally, I like the idea of a quiz every week because it forces you to study as you go on instead of waiting to cram for the exam. This first week is nothing compared to what is coming in the rest of the semester, and that is what scares me!

On the plus side, my Pathophysiology Professor asked me if I was interested in being a tutor for that class. Even though I will be busy, I said yes. I figure it would be great experience for me and also reinforce the material in my head. She won't know how many students will want tutoring, but when there is a need, she will get in contact with me. Cool.

Brendan is still getting over whatever virus has invaded his system. Fevers, cough, and hoarse voice. We kept him out of school Monday. I think Aaron may be getting it now, but maybe he is just cranky.

Today I did a lot of driving. Due to the weather, it took me an hour and a half to get to school and then another 70 minutes to get home. I was home for about a half hour and then had to drive to Newberry to take Trudie to the vet. That drive took me 1 hour and 15 minutes (which normally is 45 minutes) and then another hour to get home. Lots of drive time. The snow was really coming down on my way to Newberry, so bad that I was thinking of turning back. It had stopped snowing on my drive home, but the roads were not plowed at all so I was driving thru anywhere from 4 to 6 inches of snow. Although I do prefer to drive down un-plowed roads as opposed to roads that are plowed to reveal the ice underneath. (Which describes part of my drive this morning on my way to class.) More snow is expected overnight and tomorrow. I hope we get all of it. Town is already full of people and their sleds, bringing much needed money into the local businesses, something they desperately need.

Ryan had to go out on a call last night. Chimney fire. That is his 2nd call since signing up and starting the "Firefighter Academy." He isn't allowed to go into any burning buildings yet, not until he finishes his courses, but he is still is on the local dept. and goes to the calls to help out with all the outside stuff. If all goes well, his school will be done by the end of June.

Well, I suppose I have procrastinated enough. Must return to homework.
